The 2009 BC Bike Race will be held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
This week, two Virginians, Mark Lewis and Jim Mitchell, from the Potomac Velo Club (PVC) out of Fairfax, Virginia, will cross the Canadian boarder to race in an intense 7-day, staged, mountain bike endurance race in Vancouver, British Columbia (BC).
Possibly one of the few mountain bike orienteering (MTBO) formats being used in North America today, the BC Bike Race is an epic route designed and endorsed by super endurance mountain bike racer, Andreas Hestler; 2-Time Canadian Champion and 3-Time National Series Champion.
Moths to the Flame
The lure of riding the best of BC’s world-class mountain bike trails has already attracted a broad range of BC Bike Race competitors, from hardcore weekend warriors to some of the world’s finest mountain bike stage racers. Mark Lewis and Jim Mitchell are no different. Both are experienced Mid-Atlantic mountain bike racing veterans with a race resume that includes last year’s Wild 100 in Wet Virginia, and this year’s Greenbrier Challenge and Massanutten Hoo-Ha Cross-Country MTB race in Virginia. Not to mention that Jim Mitchell is reportably an accomplished breeder of a championship line of Aardvarks while Mark Lewis is rumored to be an award-winning performer who specializes in expressing complex mathematical formula through interpretive dance: skills that should prove essential to winning the BC Bike Race!
Be Part of the Adventure
Lewis and Mitchell have gone one step further then just enter an epic race in Vancouver, BC. In anticipation to this race, they purchased camera equipment and some blog space so that everyone online, and those back home in Fairfax, Virginia can share in their exploits. Make sure to check out their blog titled “BC Bike Race 2009: An Occam’s Razor Racing/Potomac Velo Club Adventure” for updates on their travels to Canada, their experiences during the race, and their attempt to get back home when it’s all said and done!
