MTB Orienteering 2009

Scoring for the MTBO World Ranking 2009

The scoring method will be the same as 2008. That means that points scored at any event will stand for 1 calendar year: the total of the 8 best scores during the past 12 month period will count for the ranking. Only WOC and EOC results will stand until they will be replaced through the new results of these events of the season.

A parallel ranking will be made by Ray Barnes (same as foot and ski) so as to evaluate this system for MTBO, which will then be used officially from 2010 onwards. World Ranking results will be used for red group at WOC and EOC. The scores according to placing in events will depend on the event.

Rehabilitate the Fountainhead (VA)

Fountainhead MTB Trails need your help with rehabilitation.

Fountainhead MTB Trails need your help with rehabilitation.

The Fountainhead Mountain Bike Trail Needs Your Help!

Fountainhead Park, located in Fairfax Station Virginia, offers mountain bikers one of the most popular trails in the region.  Visitors to this Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority Park are offered a fast, fun and challenging mountain bike experience.  The trail system is truly a unique experience for this area.

However, over the years the mountain bike trails at Fountainhead have become increasingly less sustainable and harder to maintain.  Many of the trails are washed out and severely eroded.  While this can provide a challenging ride to some users, it can be detrimental to the environment and to the long term sustainability of the trail.

2009 Wild 100 MTB Endurance Race Announced

Posted by dauntless On February - 22 - 2009
Welcome to Slatyfor, WV! Home of the Elk River and known as the Eastern America's riding Mecca, we have all the experience you need to hit the best trails on the East Coast.

Experience the best MTB trails on the East Coast with the Wild 100.

The 2009 14th Annual Wild 100K MTB Endurance Race will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2009.

This race pits soloists and teams against the rough and rugged landscape of Elk River, West Virginia. The Wild 100K is one of first MTBO races on the East Coast with almost 70-miles worth of mountain biking and orienteering.

To experience some of the best single track WV has to offer, we highly recommend staying at the ELK River Touring Center, known as the Eastern America’s riding Mecca, who have hosted this race for 13 years. They have basically put Slatyfork, WV on the map as a premiere MTB ride destination.

For more information visit the Elk River Touring Center website.

Update:

The 14th Annual Wild 100 is a 100K mountain bike endurance race where the course length is determined by your own route choices. Check in at different checkpoints indicated on the Slatyfork Trail Guide that each racer will receive at the beginning of the race. You can decide for yourself which trail, dirt road or (minimal amount) of paved road is the best route to the next checkpoint. The race will begin and finish at Elk River Touring Center in Slatyfork, WV. Classes: Solo Male, Solo Female, 2 person Male, 2 person Female, Co-ed 2 person, First Timer, Over 50, and the WILD 100 PLUS (extra checkpoint).

This is one of the most popular mountain biking endurance races on the east coast, so register early if you plan to attend.

Sign-Up: Pre-registration is $115 (Postmarked on or before July 31) $140 after July 31. Cancellations after July 31 are non-refundable. Registration includes the waterproof and tear-proof Slatyfork Trail Guide with checkpoints marked, a Wild 100 t-shirt, camping Friday and Saturday nights, water and food at three checkpoints, and Wild 100 Survivor’s BBQ Party after the race. To register, please call 1-866-572-3771. Online registration will be available soon.
